Powered by AmeriCorps*, Up2Us Sports Coaches harness the power of sports to transform the lives of youth and local organizations within their communities. Throughout their service term, Up2Us Sports Coaches are trained on how to use sports to inspire youth to achieve their potential and develop life skills that lead to success on and off the playing field. Up2Us Sports Coaches participate in service projects throughout their communities and join a network of over 3,000 Up2Us Sports Coaches and alumni.
As an Up2Us Sports Coach, you will be working with a youth-serving organization to bring sports and mentorship to children who need it the most. You will leverage the power of sports and your advanced coach training to inspire youth to achieve their full potential.
Up2Us Sports Coaches receive:
- A volunteer stipend of $22,950
- An end-of-term education award of $7,395 upon successful completion of 1,700 service hours and the service term
- Eligibility for Loan Forbearance
- 35+ hours of Advanced Coach Training
- Professional & Workforce Development Training
- Up2Us Sports Uniform to wear during service
- This is a full-time position requiring a minimum of 1,700 hours of service to fulfill contractual obligations. Weekly service hours typically average 35-40, depending on the program schedule. There is no maximum number of hours; service may continue until the contract end date, even if 1,700 hours are completed early. As this is a stipend-based position, payment is not calculated or paid hourly.

AmeriCorps members are not employees of the Program or of the federal government. The definition of "participant" in the National and Community Service Act of 1990 as amended applies to AmeriCorps members. As such, "a participant (member) shall not be considered to be an employee of the Program in which the participant (member) is enrolled" ((42 U.S.C. 12511(30) (BJ). Moreover, members are not allowed to perform an employee's duties or otherwise displace employees, and therefore generally not eligible to receive unemployment compensation.
Requirements
Eligibility & Qualifications:
- AmeriCorps is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must have, or be working towards High School diploma, GED, or equivalent
- Must have access to reliable transportation
- Commitment to fulfilling a full term of service (typically 900 hours over the course of 10-12 months)
- Must pass a criminal background check, complete required BGCA trainings, TB test, and obtain/maintain CPR and First Aid Certification
- Experience working with youth (highly preferred)
